Hello Mayor Evert and fellow council members
My name is Holland Davis. Mayor Evert, we met briefly at the Cinco De Mayo Celebration with Meg Stawinsky and sat near each other at the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast. I wanted to make you aware of something we just participated in called Love San Clemente.
Love San Clemente is a week long service oriented project that involves local San Clemente churches in serving the City of San Clemente. This was our first year and we were given the opportunity to serve our city by cleaning up the home economics room at Shore Cliffs Middle School where the city holds after school programs. We were also able to add a fresh coat of pain to the outside covering near the art class. In addition, we cleaned up and painted the old skeet range buildings. We wrapped up the week with a food drive and work day at Family Assistance Ministries. I believe we collected over 65 bags of food for FAM. I asked one of the city employees how much we saved the city in painting and clean up at the range and I was told around $ 5,000 to $ 6,000.00. I think with all the supplies we purchased and labor involved we were able to bless the city with approximately $ 10,000.00 in labor, services and supplies.
Why did we do this? Because we wanted to show our city the love of God in practical ways. We want our city to know that God Loves San Clemente. I think Pastor Ron Sukut at Cornerstone Community Church said it best… “San Clemente is such a cool town. We really do love our city and it was a blast getting together with others who wanted to give back to this beautiful place we call “home”. We’re looking forward to next time.” You can read about it in the Orange County Register Article featured July 11, 2012 (http://www.ocregister.com/articles/san-363208-city-clemente.html). We also have website… lovesanclemente.com and photos are located at http://www.flickr.com/photos/lovesanclemente. The churches involved were San Clemente Presbyterian, Cornerstone Community Church, Southcoast Church International and Worship Life Calvary Chapel of San Clemente. We hope to make this an annual event.
Thank you for your time. Please know that you and your families are in our prayers.
